Our Mission

To support innovative programs to impact people's lives.

History

The organization is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation founded in 1974 and is one of the oldest and most experienced providers of behavioral health services in the State of Illinois.

The organization ran programs consisting of medical diagnostic and evaluation services; mental health and substance abuse assessment services in various settings, including hospitals and courts; and HIV/AIDS testing, counseling, and case management.

In addition to its diagnostic, assessment, and evaluation programming, the organization was involved in various research projects and the design, implementation, and maintenance of automated data tracking systems for several state agencies.

Until November of 1999, the organization provided highly individualized residential and outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents at over 40 programs in the City of Chicago, surrounding counties, and downstate Illinois.

Services included:

  • Gender-specific residential and outpatient programming.
  • Child welfare programming.
  • Criminal justice programming.
  • Programs for individuals who suffer from both a mental health diagnosis and a substance abuse diagnosis.

In addition to its treatment programs, the organization engaged in various research programs with partners, including Emory University, Cook County Bureau of Health, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and the State of Illinois.

Behavioral health programming ceased its programming in June 2021 and converted to a private foundation.

Philos Foundation is utilizing its resources to continue the organization's and its founder's mission. Assisting vulnerable communities, particularly in the aftermath of disasters, not only provides immediate relief but also foster resilience, rebuilding hope, and strengthening, societal bonds for a brighter collective future.

We believe that supporting community-based organizations is the most effective approach to providing assistance to vulnerable communities, as they are often best positioned to understand local needs and implement tailored solutions for sustainable recovery and resilience-building.

We want to help you achieve your mission.
